chenille quilts made from vintage chenille bedspreads
I'm just starting to make chenille quilts. I have so many nice left overs from making my robes and jackets that I wanted to put them to use. I use all cotton recycled chenille, no polyester anywhere. I use natural cotton batting and tie all the quilts. My quilts are definitely green and good for the earth.
If your looking at this page because you want to make your own quilts and are just looking for ideas, please go to my cutter page as I have put together a few quilt kits, select pieces of nice fabrics in coordinating colors.
These four chenille quilts are similar in size so I'm listing them together at the same price of 135.00 each. The first one is done in all yellows and whites which gives you a real sunny looking quilt. It's backed in light weight vintage chenille The second one is in pinks, greens, and whites. One of the green squares (a few in the quilt) photographed duller and darker than it is on both this quilt and the last one. It's backed in an off white hand made chenille. The third quilt is in pinks, greens, browns and whites. It's backed in a big pop white chenille piece (corner flipped over in the pic to show). The last one is done in blues and peach with a little brown. It's backed with a big white pop cotton spread. All these were done with 6 1/2" squares and all measure about 42" x 61" a nice size throw to keep you warm. All have cotton batting. I used a lot of really nice vintage pieces of hard to find chenille.
This quilt measures 42" x 60" and was done in 9" squares to accommodate the groups of Cabin Craft flowers in pink, red, white, brown and green on a blue backing. I stayed with those colors through the quilt. A very pretty quilt backed with soft short pile pink chenille and cotton batting. Priced at 135.00
These two quilts were done by a very dear friend of mine, lovingly called "The queen of Chenille" also referred to as Blissfully*Vintage. She does wonderful work. They both measure approximately 38 1/2" by 44" and were done with 7" squares. The first one is done in yellows, oranges, and whites and will pack a wow into brightening up a spot. Priced at 75.00 SOLD The second one is done in reds, greens and whites and is loaded with rare chenille (Morgan Jones red rosebud, green gingham, just great quality squares). A great little throw priced at 95.00. I believe these are filled with a poly fill, soft and lightweight.
This is the very first of my patchwork chenille quilts and very pretty if I may say so. It has quite a few Cabin Craft roses and many other pretty pieces. I did this in more of a peach hue with a little pink and then darker colors in the same scheme. The large white pops add to the irregular texture and give it a real appeal. This measures a large 39" x 57 1/2". The backing is new heavy line white cotton chenille which was of such a weight that I didn't put batting in this one as it would have been too heavy. I framed all the pieces in a heavy pop corn chenille. This is perfect for that throw to keep you warm or can be used on a baby's bed. I didn't skimp on the size so your feet can stay warm too. Priced at 125.00 SOLD
I always strive to make better (and bigger) things and that was the case with this one. I might never do a large one again though as this took me so long. This chenille quilt is done in pinks, browns, and some greens. It's displayed on a king size bed and just barely covers the top measuring 71 1/2" wide by 86" long. I also framed this one in the nice heavy popcorn chenille. With it I have done a pillow sham to coordinate with it for use on a day bed or twin size bed. The backing on this one is as pretty as the front being from a hand made white spread so it's totally reversible if you get bored easily. This has natural cotton batting and is nice and heavy. Priced at 350.00 SOLD
This is the second patchwork quilt I made and is very similar to the first as I had a lot of squares cut in those colors. The two chenille quilts have similarities but are unique. It has quite a few Cabin Craft roses and many other pretty pieces. I did this in more of a peach hue with a little pink and then darker colors in the same scheme. The large white pops add to the irregular texture and give it a real appeal. This measures a large 40" x 57 1/2". The backing is a vintage light weight pop corn fabric. I did have to stitch up a small hole in the backing I missed when making it. This has natural cotton batting and is nice and heavy. I framed all the pieces in a heavy pop corn chenille. This is perfect for that throw to keep you warm or can be used on a baby's bed. I didn't skimp on the size so your feet can stay warm too. Priced at 125.00 SOLD
